We're putting out feelers to find out if swimming lessons for children (all ages open) are generating any interest at this time with those at BCA. If so, please contact Bonny Belanger at 667 - 0607, or via e-mail at Belanger@YourCertifiedOrganicProducts.com to get on the list.

Starting November 1, 2008, the George Price Centre for Peace and Development will be offering Conflict Resolution classes both for Primary and High-school students. The activity-filled classes will help children to develop the skills necessary to be able to peacefully work out differences with others.

The Centre has prepared comprehensive activity packages, complete with the objective of the exercises, the materials needed and clear directions on how to take the students through each activity. We are now extending an invitation to all volunteers who want to make a difference to become a Mentor for Peace. The list of Mentors for Peace will be called upon whenever a Conflict Resolution class is booked by a school, at which time you can let us know whether you will be available to lead that class.

Become part of the change we can bring about in Belize! Organizations and corporations can also support by encouraging their staff to become a Mentor for Peace and allow them time-off to teach a class from time to time.

If you want to be a Mentor for Peace, or are interested in receiving more details on the programme, please contact Elsie Alpuche at 822-1054.

If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war,

we shall have to begin with the children. — Mahatma Gandhi

The Chess Club is back at the George Price Centre for Peace and Development

I received this from the NYCF and thought people may be interested. at the George Price Centre for Peace and Development!

Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:00 till 5:30 p.m. children from the ages 8 to 14 are welcome to join in the fun of learning how to play chess. Instructions will be given at three levels: beginners (total beginners are welcome), intermediate and advanced. The Club will be limited to 30 students, so don't miss the boat!

Registrations will take place on the first day of Club: Wednesday, October 1.

Why chess? Chess helps children to become smarter and more focused; they learn how to concentrate on the task at hand and it gets them engaged in an exciting, intellectual activity that will exercise their brains. To read more on benefits of chess please visit the BNYCF website: www.belizechess.org

ADULTS: If you are interested in helping to run the chess club, please be in touch with me. If you do not know how to play chess, come in and we will teach you, as long as you will commit to learn together with the kids and then assist me with running the club. In the club, we do a variety of activities: reading, drawing, writing, math, singing, ... so just let me know what your strength or interest is and we will utilize your abilities. Chess club is not only about playing chess, but much, much more. Come and see for yourself on Wednesday, October 1st, from 4.00 to 5:30. If you have any additional questions please contact me at belizechess@cavesbranch.com. To see what we have been doing so far visit our website: www.belizechess.org
